FAQs

What is real beauty?

Real beauty is a radiance and vitality of spirit and a loving presence shining forth from behind our eyes.  Related to this, Chinese Medical theory tells us that a healthy complexion is a reflection of a sound and vital spirit, and can be read with this in mind.  Thus, improvements in one’s attitude and outlook improve our complexion, and  improvements of the complexion can likewise can boost our attitude and outlook.  Chinese Medicine and facial rejuvenation treatments are uniquely suited both to addressing spirit and emotionally related issues,  (as well as most things physical of course),  and also to improving our complexion and overall facial appearance.

What is facial rejuvenation acupuncture?

Also known as an Acupuncture Facelift or Cosmetic Acupuncture,  Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation is a series of treatments aimed at improving the look and vitality of one’s facial appearance.  Based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine,  these treatments not only improve the superficial appearance of one’s face,  but also work from within to improve one’s overall heath.  It is often said that one’s history can be read on one’s face,  often resulting in wrinkles,  worry or frown lines,  dark circles or bags under the eyes,  age spots, lack of hydration etc.  Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation treatments can help with all of this resulting in a better feeling,  healthier,  younger looking person.

Why choose acupuncture facial rejuvenation?

People choose acupuncture facials because they are natural,  easy,  and work systemically on overall health as well as superficially on the face.  (What other facial treatment can say that?)  There are no chemicals involved,  no surgery, and there is no recovery time.

What can I expect?

While improvement can often be seen even after the first treatment,  treatments are cumulative and lasting results can often be seen after sessions six or seven.  Results should last for a few to several years assuming there is limited sun exposure,  stress,  and that we remain relatively healthy.  Maintenance treatments are recommended monthly (although everyone finds their own rhythm with this)  after the initial 10 to 12 treatments.

Who would benefit from the treatments? When should I start?

Anyone with a face and concern over its vitality and appearance can benefit from these treatments  (with the contraindication caveats, see below).  Usually these are folks over 40 who want to optimize their natural attractiveness and age with vitality,  grace,  and dignity.  As with all things,  the earlier we jump on them the easier they are to treat.  There is no age limit,  however, and most all facial issues  (as well as everything else)  can be improved.  I have seen younger people as well,  treating acne scars and uneven skin texture which these treatments can also address.

Are there any contraindications?

Yes,  acupuncture facial treatments are not for everyone.  Contraindications include anyone with blood or bleeding diseases,  high blood pressure,  migraine headaches,  uncontrolled diabetes and a few other conditions.  As an overall health practitioner I also reserve the right to determine that any one individual may not be healthy enough or needs to address some other health priority before the treatments are done.  The good news is that Chinese Medicine can treat these contraindications too and I am happy to see you for those purposes and/or make an appropriate referral.  Feel free to call or email me and we can discuss this issue.

Does it hurt?

While I have seen other practitioners who practice these techniques advertise that they are completely painless,  I have been practicing long enough to know that every individual has their own sensitivity level.  Facial rejuvenation treatments as with all acupuncture can pinch a bit here or there but overall can be quite pleasant and soothing.  Generally these treatments are an interesting mix of one being extremely relaxed  (which any treatment will do,  acupuncture is famous for releasing endorphins from our brains which are the body’s natural opiates and this can put us into an extremely relaxed state),  and being aware that we receiving needles in our face.  I use only the highest quality and finest hair-thin needles for these treatments.  Most of my clients can receive these treatments easily and do not find them a problem.

How much do they cost?

Each treatment is $110.00.   I generally recommend someone new to this come in and get a treatment or two to see how they like them before committing to the whole series.   I am happy to offer the first treatment at half price,  just mention that you read that here and I am happy to accommodate.
